Grammy came for a visit! As Grammy likes to say, "I just wants to be with you, I don't need to go do anything." But we like to take advantage of visitors - they force us out of our routine and get us to explore the area. Oh, and of course, they are an extra set of hands with these two adorable munchkins! So, during Grammy's stay, we took a couple day trips - one to the coast (one of our favorite loops) and one to Sacramento (a new place for us). Our first trip started with lunch in a cold and windy Half Moon Bay. The weather had us nervous about how the beach was going to turn out, but the sun was warm enough and the wind died down just in time for our arrival. Since we have learned our lesson in the past, we were prepared with layers and had a really nice time! After a couple hours, we headed towards Palo Alto to show Grammy the campus at Stanford and get some dinner. We had a very good dinner at a "farm to table" restaurant (that I cannot find the name of) and then headed home. It was a lot of driving (Grammy squeezed in the back between the two car seats!), but a very nice day. I apologize in advance for the millions of beach pictures!

Our second day trip was to Sacramento. This was our first visit to the state capitol and truthfully, we weren't expecting much. We were pleasantly surprised! At the advice of a blog I found via Pinterest, we started with lunch at Tower Cafe. It was very crowded, but worth the wait. The restaurant is decorated with tropical plants and South American art, sculpture, and knick-knacks covering every available inch of space. ("Decorated" is actually an understatement... it's more like South America threw up all over the restaurant, without making it unappetizing.) After a nice lunch, we found the Sacramento response to San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf - "Old Sacramento" - complete with balloon artists, buskers and bums. There were tourist shops, horse drawn carriages and Andrew's favorite - trains! We ran out of time to do the train museum, so will have to take Pop up the next time he visits!
